About Criggin Barn & Shepherd’s Hut
Nestled in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Criggin Barn & Shepherd’s Hut offers a warm, welcoming stay for families & friends looking for a relaxing week away. Boasting wonderful views of the Teme Valley and exceptional walking and cycling routes on the doorstep, you can choose to explore it first hand or sit back and soak up the scenery from Criggin Barn’s gardens with a glass of something nicely chilled.
Criggin Barn has been recently renovated to a high spec and offers all the comforts you could need for a home away from home. There are four double bedrooms (two ensuite) and a family bathroom, a stunning sitting room with valley views as well as further cosy seating in the spacious hallway, a nice spot to unwind with a book after a long walk in front of the wood burner. Our open plan kitchen diner (well-equipped for passionate cooks and foodies) has room for all guests to eat together.
Criggin’s Top Garden has a large seating area with a fire pit, set in the mature garden in front of the Shepherd’s Hut that gives unencumbered views across the Teme Valley – you won’t find a better spot for sundowners and stargazing on clear nights. The Lower Garden has another seating area for outside dining (great for al fresco breakfast) with views back down the valley towards the village of Llanfairwaterdine and our bespoke oak summer house if the evenings get chillier.
The Sunday Times lists the Shropshire Hills in their Best Places to live 2024; “Shh! Hardly anyone is in the know about this enchanting landscape. Here you’ll find lush valleys, big hills and bigger skies…and a sense of space that’s hard to find elsewhere in England.”
Nearby Clun is beautiful, timeless and still; as poet A.E Houseman wrote in his 1896 collection, A Shropshire Lad, one of the “quietest places/ Under the sun.” (with a couple of great pubs!). And just across the border is Presteigne – the first official “dark skies” community in mainland England & Wales.
Criggin Barn is in striking distance of a number of towns and attractions across Shropshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and into Wales. You can find more details about local food, drink and fun in the Explore the Area pages of our website.
We also own The Real Wine Company, meaning we can offer a range of delicious wines from independent winemakers to make your stay really special. You can peruse the available wines here www.therealwineco.co.uk . Let us know a day in advance so we can have them waiting for your arrival. Depending on availability, we also offer bespoke wine tastings at Criggin Barn if you want a more interactive experience one evening.
